CEO David McDonald takes OSI Group to a New Height

David McDonald is a successful entrepreneur as well as business executive. A native of Iowa, David McDonald, graduated with a major in animal science from Iowa State University. Upon graduation in 1987, he joined OSI Industries, a food processor company in Chicago as a trainee. He has since scaled the corporate ladder at the company to the top and is now the chief executive officer.

Achievements at OSI Group

Based in Illinois, OSI Group has operations across the globe in food processing. The company supplies customised food items to diverse customers in the United States, China, India, East and Western Europe. These include protein-rich sausages, sandwiches, as well as pizza. Under David McDonald, the company has achieved tremendous growth with particular emphasis on the Chinese market.

According to David, China has the biggest potential due to the large and prosperous middle class. To further exploit this market, OSI Group plans to commission two new plants. These will position the company as the leading producer of poultry products. In addition to the China, OSI Group is setting up a new plant in India and expanding its facilities in Hungary and Poland.The jewel in the crown is the acquisition of the Netherlands based Baho Food Company that operates throughout Western Europe. According to David McDonald, this will enhance OSI Group’s footprint in Europe while strengthening their operating capacity.

David McDonald stated that the company’s vision has been to exceed their customers’ expectations. Flexibility is a key strategy in their global operations and includes the ability to be dynamic to customer needs. In addition, the company undertakes a meticulous study of the diverse cultures where they operate. This enables OSI Group to understand and respond to their specific requirements. Further, OSI Group is actively involved in the design and development of processing equipment. This helps to ensure that they support high quality demanded by their customers. For instance, the company has developed equipment with sensors to uncover impurities. Also, the company seeks linkages with their customers to identify their exact needs and develop appropriate solutions.

David McDonald has been honoured with the Wallace E. Barron Award and is an active member of the Agricultural  Entrepreneurship Initiative. He has also served as the chairman of the North American Meat Institute. David McDonald also supports his community through a scholarship fund and an internship programme through the OSI Group.
